Jon Jessen has been in the crop consulting business for over 50 years. His foundation in agriculture started on a small farm near Dos Palos, CA where he was raised. After graduating from U.C. Davis in 1956 with a degree in Entomology and Parasitology, he entered the Army as a second lieutenant serving in Texas, Georgia and Korea. Upon returning from Korea, he landed a job as a crop protection field man for a farmers’ co-op in Yuma, Arizona. In 1962, Jon decided to start his own crop consulting business, Grower Scientific Services (GSS), with the goal of providing science-based crop consulting which would grow and develop into Gowan Company, a thriving international business built on the Jessen family’s unwavering commitment to agriculture and dedication to specialty crops. Gowan Company, a family owned $500 million crop protection company employing 1,000 people in 18 countries, is still based in Yuma, AZ. Jon received his MBA from Claremont Graduate University and remains active in the company as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
